Medium 3D Portrait in white ceramic on California Manzanita base.

Medium 3D Portrait in white ceramic on California Manzanita base.

What is it worth to you to forever preserve your memories? Children grow up. Friends and family move away. Grandparents are no longer with us. We all change with time.

A 3D Portrait is a beautiful piece of art that is also a reminder of someone we love, and a unique way to keep a little bit of that person with us always.

The price of your 3D Portrait will depend on two factors: the size of the 3D Portrait and the material that it is made out of. Below is a discussion of the sizes and materials available. On the following page is a chart which lists the prices for all of the combinations.

Note that a base is not included in the price of a 3D Portrait. There are a number of options for the base available at an additional cost. Please see below. If no base option is chosen, the 3D Portrait will be delivered to you without any base, but with a flat bottom suitable for mounting.

See the Gallery page for examples of the various material types and bases.

Family and group discounts are available. The first two 3D Portraits are full price, the third is 10% off, the fourth 20% off, etc. up to a 50% discount. Note that for this discount to apply, all 3D Portraits need to be mounted on the same base.

We accept PayPal and all major credit cards. A deposit of half the total cost of your 3D Portrait will be required at the time of the scanning session. This deposit is refundable, less a $99 scanning fee, until you approve an email with the visualization of your 3D Portrait. Once the 3D Portrait has begun manufacture the deposit cannot be returned.

You may pick up your finished 3D Portrait at the studio at your convenience, or you may have it shipped to you for a nominal additional cost, based on the size and weight of your 3D Portrait.

Sizes

3D Portraits come in 6 basic sizes: Very Small, Small, Medium, Large, Very Large and Extra Large.  Custom sizing is possible, but these sizes should handle most situations. Note that the cost of your 3D Portrait will increase pretty rapidly as the size increases. This is just simple geometry - if you double the length, width and height of something the volume increases by a factor of 8. And since 3D Printing is all about the volume of material used, this is directly reflected in the price.

Very Small: 3D Portraits of this size are about 1 inch tall. This size is best suited for the more expensive materials like silver and gold plate and are good for jewelry, charm bracelets and the like. A small ring can be placed in your 3D Portrait to hold it onto a chain for a small additional cost.

Small: These 3D Portraits are about 2 3/4 inches tall. This is the best size choice for a cost-effective 3D Portrait in metal, such as bronze-infused steel or stainless or matte steel. Detail will be very good and it will have a solid feel and weight.

Medium: This is the next size up at about 3 3/4 inches tall. This size is great for a ceramic piece or any of the other material options. Your 3D Portrait will start to have a real presence on your desk and really get noticed.

Large: 3D Portraits of this size are about 5 1/2 inches tall. They are more expensive than the smaller versions, but they more than make up for it in the way they will stand out and command attention on your desk or mantelpiece. Details will be very sharp and combined with a nice base, this size makes for great gifts and display items.

Very Large: These 3D Portraits are about 7 1/4 inches tall and really make a statement. They are immediately recognizable from anywhere in a room, and extremely impressive to view. Whatever material they are made of, they are sure to be the centerpiece of any conversation.

Extra Large: At over 9 inches tall, these 3D Portraits start to approach life-size dimensions. The proud owner of one of these 3D Portraits has made an investment in an heirloom-quality piece which will surely be handed down from generation to generation. A perfect way to memorialize grandparents, or capture children in all their wondrous innocence.

Materials

3D Portraits can be made in a number of different materials, each with its own charms. Samples are available at the studio for closer examination. Of course, the price of a 3D Portrait will increase as the cost of the materials used to construct it increase. Below is a description of the most popular materials we use. Special-order materials are also available; please ask for more information.

Duratex: This is the most economical way to print your 3D Portrait. Duratex is also known as ABS plastic and is printed right here in the studio on our own 3D printers, then expertly finished. Duratex is the material that Legos are made from - it is strong, durable and holds details extremely well. You can get your 3D Portrait in a variety of colors, including white, translucent white, stone, gray, black, lilac and glow-in-the-dark blue. For an additional cost, we offer special color options and painting services which can give your 3D Portrait a metallic or opalescent sheen.

Everlux: This material is a fine polyamide nylon, and is sent out to be printed on industrial-strength 3D printers. It has a velvety smooth finish and is strong, flexible and renders even small details very well. It comes in a wide variety of material options. In addition to many color choices, you can get your 3D Portrait in water-clear, flexible elastic or alumide, which is nylon infused with tiny bits of aluminum that give it a sparkly appearance.

Ceramic: An interesting and surprisingly affordable choice, these 3D Portraits lack a little of the detail of the other materials due to the glazing and firing that they undergo, but have a unique organic feel to them. They are exceptionally smooth and shiny and fascinating to touch hold and look at. Color options are white, black, eggshell blue, avocado green and pastel yellow.

Full Color Sandstone: Another unique choice, these 3D Portraits have a full-color photographic image printed on the three-dimensional surface to produce and extremely life-like appearance. The material itself is a little bit rough like fine sand. These 3D portraits cost a little more, owing to the necessary preparation work on the photographic image, but the full color adds an extra dimension to the sculptural experience. The sandstone finish is also available without the color.

Infused Steel: 3D Portraits in these materials are impressively heavy and dense, with excellent details. They have the look and feel of true castings and though the material costs are higher, these 3D Portraits convey a timeless, heirloom quality. Paired with an elegant base, these 3D Portraits will last a lifetime and are suitable to hand down through the generations. Choices here include bronze, matte black, polished nickel, stainless steel, grey steel and steel with a thin gold plate.

Precious Metals: Although limited by the manufacture process to smaller sizes, 3D Portraits can be made from precious metals such as solid silver and gold-plated brass. And what these 3D Portraits lack in size they more than make up for in brilliance. A unique and beautiful gift, these 3D Portraits are perfect for jewelry and other small ornaments. A small loop or hook can be added for attaching a chain for a small additional cost.
